EFI Live Setup Guide
Getting Your Tune
On The Road.
Follow these step-by-step instructions to transfer your .BBX file and flash your ECM. Read everything before you begin.
Do not open the .BBX file until you completely understand this process or are familiar with EFI Live. Flash errors are extremely common — any flash error will likely result in your truck being unable to start until you contact us. We do not have 24-hour tech support.

What You'll Need
Step by Step
Verify Your AutoCal License
Plug the AutoCal into any power source. Once it turns on, press "Next" 10 times until the AutoCal displays its License Number. The LIC number must match exactly:
If you cannot reach your original tuner, you can purchase an unlink directly from EFI Live for $50.00:
Install EFI Live V8 Software
EFI Live V8 Scan and Tune is a free download. Always use the latest available version:
If V8 is already installed, open it and check the top right corner of the home screen — it will display your current version. Make sure you're up to date before continuing.
Update Device Firmware
Your device firmware and boot block must meet the following minimum versions:
Plug your device into the computer, connect it in EFI Live, then click "Check Firmware" (located next to "Check for Updates"). A pop-up will display your current versions.
Open the .BBX File
Save the .BBX file to your Desktop or another easy-to-find location. Once saved, double-click the file to open it in EFI Live.
Transfer the Tune to Your Device
EFI Live will open to a screen displaying the tune(s) inside the .BBX file. Click "Program Quick Setup" to begin the file transfer.
The transfer happens in two stages:
- Stage 1 — Configuration Files: A pop-up will say "Configuration files have been copied." Click OK.
- Stage 2 — Tune Files: A second pop-up will say "Quick Setup Details have been programmed." You're done — the tune is on your device.
Flashing the Truck
Before You Begin — Verify All of These
- OBD2 cable plugged in directly
- CSP pass-through switch unplugged (if installed)
- Key in "Run" position — do not start
- Radio is off
- Lights are off
- Battery is charged and in good condition
Press "Next" on the AutoCal until you see the tune file you ordered, then press OK.
If this is the first time tuning that ECM with this AutoCal, it will prompt you to license the controller. Follow the on-screen prompts. If it's already been licensed, the AutoCal will begin flashing immediately after you press OK.
Wait for the flash to reach 100% completion. Follow all on-screen prompts that appear afterward.
Allow the countdown timer to fully expire — do not interrupt. Once it counts down to zero, the ECM has been successfully flashed and tuning is complete.
